selfhelp helps noone
5:43 p.m.

Dear unloved masses,

A woman came into work today and asked me for a self help book on finding a soulmate. Because I am a helpful and eager bookseller I directed her to several, including "A Guide To Finding Your Long Lost Soulmate", "Soulmate Relationships : Understanding, Finding and Keeping Them" and "How to Recognize Your Soulmate Across a Crowded Room at a Boring Cocktail Party" (I kid you not). She then spent over 20 (two selfhelp books and a pack of "Titania's Love Tarot Cards") and went away, presumably, fairly satisfied.

And I felt so incredibly sad. These people who write these books are looking for profit - pure and simple. They don't care about your lovelife, or lack thereof. They care about your money. You are not going to find a soulmate on the basis of advice from a crap paperback book. You are wasting your time, and your money, and your local friendly bookseller's time. For christ's sake people.
